- Holidays: Christmas break, MLK weekend, Presidents' Day weekend book 1-2 weeks ahead
- Glow Tubing: Friday & Saturday night sessions sell out fastest

What to Wear & Safety Tips
👕 Dress in Layers
- Waterproof jacket & snow pants (you WILL get wet from snow)
- Thermal base layers – moisture-wicking, not cotton
- Warm mid-layer – fleece or insulated jacket
- Extra clothes in car for after tubing
🧤 Essential Accessories
- Waterproof gloves (hands get cold & wet fast)
- Warm hat or beanie
- Sunglasses or goggles (snow glare is intense)
- Sunscreen (high altitude = stronger UV)
👢 Footwear
- Waterproof insulated boots
- Avoid sneakers—they'll get soaked
- Wool or synthetic socks (not cotton)
- Bring hand/toe warmers for extra cold days
⛑️ Helmet Policy
Helmets are optional but recommended at all parks, especially for young children. Grizzly Ridge & Coyote Creek rent helmets for $10. Big Bear Snow Play & Alpine Slide allow you to bring your own (bike/ski helmets work).
🛷 Can I Bring My Own Sled?
No. At commercial tubing parks, you cannot bring private sleds or tubes. Parks provide specially designed tubes for safety. If you want to use your own sled, see "Alternatives" below for free snow play areas.
Alternatives: Free Sledding & Snow Play
Want to bring your own sled or avoid tubing park fees? Big Bear has legal free snow play areas where you can sled, build snowmen, and play in the snow with your own equipment.
Popular free sledding spots:
- Meadows Edge Picnic Area – Easy access, gentle hills, family-friendly
- Boulder Bay Park – North shore location, great for sledding near the lake
- Various USFS snow play areas – Check with Big Bear Discovery Center for current designated areas
Note: Adventure Pass ($5/day or $30/year) required at USFS areas. Bring your own sleds, saucers, or snow toys. Adult supervision required—no lifeguards or staff at free areas.
